EMT Training Returns To Classrooms This Fall
Sarah Doucet knows plenty of people who will enroll when an emergency medical technician (EMT) class is held at Liberty High School in August.“A lot of my peers have already said they want to take it,” said Doucet, a Liberty senior. “Some of my friends wanted to take it this year, but they [had to take] other classes instead.”
Poor communication between the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and school officials last year resulted in confusion about how many people were needed to teach the daytime EMT classes.
There was also confusion about who would be responsible for teaching them and where the classes would be held.
As a result, the program was suspended for the 2008-09 school year.
However, school officials, representatives of the DFES and the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association recently reached an agreement pertaining to fire rescue training. Specific guidelines pertaining to the high school EMT and fire science classes are included in the memorandum of understanding.
