Liberty's Lillard, Gough Are All-Stars
Gough was selected to play in the Virginia High School Caoches Association East-West Football Game, while Lillard will participate for the USA in the inaugural 2009 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Junior World Championship .in Canton, Ohio, this summer.
Gough, an offensive lineman who signed with Virginia Tech, will play for the West on July 10 in Hampton in a game that features LHS coach Tommy Buzzo as head coach of the West team.
Meanwhile, Lillard, a University of Virginia-bound defensive back, is part of something new and exciting — he's a member of the U.S. Team in a new eight-team international competition that also includes Canada, Mexico, Germany, France, Sweden, Japan and New Zealand.
The USA opens with France.
The event runs from June 27 to July 5.
All 50 state high school athletic associations and the District of Columbia were invited to nominate at least 10 players to compose a talent pool. Buzzo said film was sent of Lillard, and phone interviews were conducted.
According to Buzzo, “Corey was one of 12 kids in line for the final spot and he got it.”
