Authorities Seize Animals

Authorities confiscated dozens of animals from a Foxville Road property near Warrenton last week.

According to documents filed in Fauquier County Circuit Court, a neighbor called Fauquier County Animal Control June 2, concerned about the care being provided to a large number of animals including cats, dogs, peacocks, pigeons, chickens, horses and donkeys.

Humane investigator Hilleary Bogley and animal control officers went to the property the next day, where they found “several cats inside of the house with feces on the floor and a filthy litter box.”

The cats looking through the window appeared “scrawny and dirty,” Fauquier County Deputy Lane Phillippe said in a search warrant affidavit.

Four dogs could be seen through a window with a “considerable amount” of feces on the floor, and multiple birds and cages were stacked in the garage, Phillippe added.

Based on their findings, authorities obtained a search warrant June 4 and seized six dogs, two chickens, 35 pigeons, a fish, a turtle, 14 finches with a cage, three cockatoos, 28 cats.

On June 5, they obtained another search warrant for the sheds, fields and barns on the property. The second warrant resulted in the confiscation of 18 equines.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
