County Awaits News on Stimulus Money

Fauquier expects to get word in the next couple of months about whether it will receive federal stimulus money.

As of last Wednesday, the county had submitted seven competitive stimulus grant applications under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for an array of public-safety purposes and to buy, remodel and resell vacant, foreclosed homes to eligible people.

Fauquier wants about $3 million for these uses.

It's impossible to predict how much, if any, competitive stimulus money the county might receive.

"I think the message is clear," Budget Director Ari J. Sky said. "The jury is still out….It's a very competitive market. But one thing in our favor is there's a lot of stimulus money out there. So we're just going to have to wait and see."
