Undefeated Fauquier Swim Club braces for championship showdown with Orange

For the swimmers, coaches and parents at Fauquier Swim Club, there is an air of excitement.

Their final meet of the season was scheduled for Thursday at home against Orange Swim Club, also 4-0. The meet, which was completed too late for Times-Democrat deadlines, served as the de facto championship meet.

According to FSC coach Angie Smith, Orange coach Jim Fisher had nearly 110 swimmers available for the meet. With FSC having 148 swimmers, the final meet was shaping up as a strength versus strength contest.

FSC's meet at Culpeper Rec was one of those challenges. The meet had to be held over two days due to a storm.

Another challenge the coaching staff faces is managing the roster when kids leave for vacations. Smith has a box labeled “Notes to Coach” where swimmers give notice of when they will be away...
