Recession Forces Club Delay

By Don Del Rosso

Because of the recession, a Northern Virginia foundation recently shelved plans for after-school programs at the Marshall Community Center designed to help students develop and improve math, science and technology skills.

Equal Footing Foundation of Herndon and the county parks and recreation department began work on the proposed "Computer Clubhouse" more than a year ago.

Parks and recreation Director Larry Miller said the county learned in April that the foundation would not be unable to proceed with the clubhouse.

Miller attributed the foundation’s decision to the "economic climate."

"Right now, it’s more or less postponed," the parks director said. "They [the foundation] were making commitments [to the project] based on donations for future years and, obviously, it’s not a great time to be in that situation."
