For the second time in about a month, someone robbed a branch of The Fauquier Bank at gunpoint.

Maj. Paul Mercer of the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office said the most recent incident occurred at approximately 12: 29 p.m. Monday. At that time, an unknown man entered and robbed the New Baltimore branch of The Fauquier Bank, which is located in the 5119 block of Lee Highway [U.S. 29] near Warrenton.

The suspect was wearing blue jeans and a burgundy top. He was also wearing white gloves.

He was armed with a shotgun [and] fled the bank in a two-tone, older model Ford truck,” Mercer said. The suspect got an undetermined amount of money, the major added.

According to the major, investigators hadn’t determined on Monday afternoon whether or not the incident was related to another bank robbery which occurred Dec. 19.

In that case, an unknown man entered the Catlett branch of The Fauquier Bank, which is located in the 3500 block of Catlett Road and robbed it at gunpoint.

The suspect in that robbery is described as a dark-skinned male, approximately 6 feet tall. He was wearing a boonie-style camouflage-patterned hat, dark pants and dark shoes. He was also wearing light colored gloves.

The man, who was armed with a semiautomatic handgun, fled the bank with an undetermined amount of money, Mercer said.

Both cases remain under investigation. Anyone with information about the New Baltimore incident should contact Fauquier County Detective Jason Romero at (540) 347-3300. Anyone with information about the Catlett robbery can also reach investigators at that number.
