Check Fraud Investigated

An alleged fraud reported to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office Feb. 16 remains under investigation.

According to police records, a complainant from the 2800 block of Delaplane Grade Road in Delaplane reported the check fraud. The estimated loss is $4,800.


House Burglarized

Fauquier County detectives are investigating a residential burglary which occurred Feb. 17.

According to police records, a complainant from the 6500 block of Weaver Lane, Bealeton, reported the incident, which included the theft of a flat-screen television. The estimated loss is $949.


Thefts Reported

The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received three reports of larcenies Feb. 17-18. Details included in police reports are as follows:

Feb. 17, Someone from the 7200 block of O'Keefe Road, Bealeton, reported the theft of a leaf blower, trimmer and shears. The estimated loss is $800.

Feb. 17, A complainant from the 8000 block of Botha Road, Bealeton, reported the theft of savings bonds and checks. The estimated loss is $2,105 and the investigation is ongoing.

Feb. 18, A caller from the 7400 block of Poplar Point Lane in Warrenton reported the theft of a lawn mower and weed eaters worth approximately $1,000. The investigation is ongoing.

Charges Pending in Multi-Vehicle Crash

Warrenton Police Chief Connie Novak said charges are pending in a multi-car accident that occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. Feb. 17.

Novak said Danny Joe Hatfield, 47, of Warrenton, was driving a Chevrolet Blazer eastbound on Lee Highway when he ran a red light and hit a Mitsubishi Galant driven by Bradley Portwood of Fort Wayne, Ind. The initial collision resulted in a chain reaction involving two more vehicles that were going through the intersection, Novak said.

Hatfield sustained minor injuries, but was transported to the hospital due to the alcohol and medication he was allegedly taking.

No one else was hurt, Novak said.


Following Too Closely Charged

A Fairfax woman was charged with following too closely after she was involved in a car crash Feb. 17.

According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the wreck happened in the area of U.S. 29 [Lee Highway] and Vint Hill Road at approximately 8:59 a.m.

Audrey Lavergne Arends, 18, was driving a 2001 Honda Civic northbound on Lee Highway when she allegedly hit a pickup truck driven by Joshua James Borkenhagen, 23, of Locust Grove. Borkenhagen's vehicle was stopped in the road due to a backup from the traffic light when the accident occurred, police said.

Neither driver was hurt.


Driver Charged with Failing to Yield

A Sumerduck man was charged with failure to yield the right of way after he was involved in a car accident Feb. 19.

A Fauquier County deputy's report indicates the crash happened in the 5100 block of Sumerduck Road at approximately 10:54 a.m.

William James Morrissette Jr., 18, was driving a 2004 Honda Accord when he allegedly backed onto Sumerduck Road from a private road. As he did so, he struck the “landing gear” on the trailer being hauled by a 1995 International tractor, police said.

Morrissette's vehicle sustained significant damage, but neither he nor the truck driver, Christopher Bane Dye, 29, of Louisa, were injured, according to the report.
