Commercial Construction Picks Up Near Gainesville Intersection

While the struggling economy wreaks havoc on some companies in western Prince William County, others are moving in to take their place.

Construction is two months underway on a Value Place hotel in Gainesville near the intersection of John Marshall Highway (Route 55) and Lee Highway (U.S. 29). The 10,000-square-foot, four-story unit is due to be completed on June 1 and is designed to feature 133 rooms.

It’s just at the stick stage right now,” said John Schroeder, construction superintendent for the Wichita, Kansas-based contracting company Construction Services Bryant, Inc. “It’s just the beginning.”

Property owner and real estate investor Guy Paolozzi initially bought the property to the north of where the RaceTrac gas station used to be in Gainesville. He then sold a parcel of the land that was then-open space and a franchisee for Value Place Franchise Services LLC picked it up.

The county government issued a building permit on Nov. 10, 2008, and ground was broken three weeks later.
