Saint James Baptist Church
Saint James Baptist Church is located at 7353 Botha Road (Route 661), Bealeton.
It is considered to be the oldest African American Baptist Church in Fauquier County.
On the second Sunday in October, Saint James Baptist Church will celebrate its 143rd anniversary. The Rev. Richard Garner and the Rising Zion Baptist Church of Jeffersonton will be the guests.
Organized in 1866, it was originally called the Foxville Church after the nearby settlement of Foxville. A few streets in the area still reflect this heritage in their names.
The congregation first met in a brush arbor, and the first pastor was the Rev. Leland Warring, who came to the area from Spotsylvania County.
Saint James is called the "Mother Church" in Fauquier County.
The current pastor is the Rev. Shep Bridgett III of Woodbridge, who has served the church for 25 years.
Services are held at Saint James every Sunday except for the fifth Sunday in the month. Sunday school starts at 9:45 a.m., followed by morning worship at 11 a.m. Prayer Meeting and Bible Studies are held on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m.
Homecoming is held each year on the first Sunday in August, and the church anniversary is celebrated each year in October.
They invite everyone to come and worship with them.
