Youthful Eagles Shut Down by Osbourn, 5-0
Starting with their identical nicknames and continuing to the characteristics of their uniforms, there were tons of similarities between the Liberty and Osbourn high softball teams, which met Friday in Bealeton.
Both squads are nicknamed Eagles. Each wore blue tops with gray baseball-style pants and high blue socks.
And they looked well-matched on paper, as each has beat Fauquier by one run.
But in their first head-to-head meeting of the year, coach Ira DeGrood's Eagles were a tad stronger than coach Charlie Padgett's Eagles Friday, winning 5-0. Better hitting, and slightly better pitching was the difference.
Liberty was stifled by Osbourn hurler Ashley Boteler, who struck out 12 and allowed two hits and one walk. Osbourn also had the game's best offensive weapon in slugging second baseman Katie Brennan, who was 3-for-4 with a home run, double and three tuns batted in.

Davis may be the closest thing Liberty has to a veteran player. The junior shortstop played full-time at second last year, and moved to short when Danielle Morgan graduated.
Davis hits leadoff, and represents a capable hitter at the top of the order.
Although she went 0-for-3, Davis made decent contact, as she grounded out hard to the pitcher, lined out to second and flied out to center...
