Famous Inn Goes on Auction Block
Famous Inn Goes on Auction BlockBy Laura Ruby
Times-Democrat Staff Writer
The upcoming auction of The Wayside Inn in Middletown is a rare opportunity to own a piece of history.
The 22-room inn, conference center, and restaurant — the oldest continuously operated inn in the United States — will hit the auction block at the end of the month, said auctioneer Gordon Greene.
Handling the sale with the Cleveland-based Chartwell Group, Greene will conduct the auction at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 30 at the inn, which is located at 7783 Main St. in Middletown.
Bidding consideration will begin at $535,000 with a published reserve of $995,000, Greene said. Bidders must obtain a cashier's check for $55,000 to participate in the auction.
The property will be available for inspection on several occasions throughout the month, he said, adding that seller financing is available, with an interest rate as low as 6.5 percent if the purchaser makes at least a 25 percent cash down payment.
