Burglaries Investigated

Two burglaries reported to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office last week remain under investigation. The details included in police reports are as follows:

— March 23, Someone from the 5300 block of Telephone Road, Warrenton, reported a commercial burglary with the theft of consumable goods and tools. The estimated loss is $1,818.

— March 25, A caller from the 7500 block of Sunny Lane in The Plains reported a residential burglary with theft of a Garmin GPS unit, jewelry and cash. The estimated loss is $5,110.


Fraud Reported

The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received two reports of fraud with monetary losses of more than $500 last week. The details included in police reports are as follows:

— March 24, A complainant from the 9700 block of Logan Jay Drive near Bealeton reported Internet fraud. The estimated loss in the case is $535 and the investigation is ongoing.

— March 24, A caller from the 7100 block of Airlie Road near Warrenton reported identification fraud with an estimated loss of $2,968.


Cash and Jewelry Stolen

Fauquier County detectives are investigating two reports of theft made last week.

According to police reports, the details are as follows:

— March 23, A complainant from the 2100 block of Carriage Ford Road, Catlett, reported the theft of a yellow gold wedding ring. The estimated loss is $10,500.

— March 24, Someone from the 5300 block of Courtneys Corner Road, Sumerduck, reported the theft of cash. The estimated loss is $1,096.


Five People Injured in Crash

Five people reportedly sustained minor injuries in a car crash March 23.

According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the wreck happened in the area of Catlett Road and Old Dumfries Road at approximately 1:27 p.m.

Emma Portillo, 39, of Centreville was driving a 2000 Toyota Sierra when she allegedly failed to yield the right of way while turning into a parking lot on Catlett Road.

As she did so, she drove into the path of a 1996 Mercury driven by Judith Dianne Graham, 61, of Culpeper. Graham's vehicle hit Portillo's vehicle in the right front corner, police said.

Neither driver appeared to be injured, but both complained of pain and were transported to the hospital by EMS personnel, according to the report. Three passengers in Graham's vehicle were also hurt, police said.

Portillo allegedly claimed she though she had time to make the turn and that Graham was speeding, according to police However, a witness corroborated Graham's version of the events that resulted in the crash.

Portillo was charged with reckless driving/failure to yield the right of way.


Cause of Fatal Crash Unknown

A Vienna man died in a single-vehicle accident March 29.

According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the crash happened on Dumfries Road near Burwell Road at approximately 2:54 p.m.

Kent Michael Phillips, 46, was driving a silver Honda Accord which was apparently going southbound in the 3600 block of Dumfries Road, police said. It appeared that the car ran off the roadway to the left, drove through a field and struck a brush area and a fallen tree before stopping.

The cause of the crash and Phillips' death was unknown and remained under investigation.
