New county planner likes to think outside of box

The phone call caught Ken Alm by surprise.

Fauquier supervisor Terry Nyhous wanted to know if Alm would be interested in the Center District seat on the county planning commission.

Worried that the job would require more time than he could give it, Alm politely told Nyhous thanks, but no thanks.

But Alm, who said he had met Nyhous only twice, had second thoughts soon after his conversation last month with Nyhous.

So the retired airline pilot did some research into the duties of a commissioner.
