Remington This Week: Town celebrates Patriots' Day

Last Thursday, Sept. 11, the Town of Remington observed Patriots' Day by having American Flags line Main Street and James Madison Street. The flags were put up the day before by Jimmy Stewart and Van Loving, who both work for the town.

Remington United Methodist Church will sponsor "Wellness: A Series of Community Conversations for the Remington Area."

The first Wellness Conversation will be "Resiliency: Moving Forward," by Alan Rassmussen, prevention specialist, RRCSB. It will be offered from 7-10 p.m. Sept. 18 at Remington United Methodist Church, 150 West Bowen St., Remington. Child care will be provided.

Linda Conrad rejoined the Remington Town Council on Sept. 8. She replaces Richard Wehrle for his unexpired term ending June 30, 2010, and will serve as chairperson for the Personnel and Police Committees. She will also serve as a member of the Community Development Committee.

Congratulations to Renee LeDrew, who has accepted a position with the Fauquier Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher. Renee is a volunteer firefighter/EMT with the Remington Volunteer Fire & Rescue.

The Southern Fauquier Business Owners' Association is preparing for its annual Ducks Galore Race. Race day is Saturday, Oct. 4, the same day as the Remington Fall Festival. Tickets can be purchased at the Corner Deli and Rappahannock Station in Remington, Generations Flowers in Bealeton, M and P Pizza in Morrisville and the Fauquier Bank in Catlett.

First prize is $1,500 cash, second prize is a $500 savings bond and third prize is a $250 savings bond. Tickets are $5 each. Net proceeds to the Liberty High School for two $1,000 scholarships for graduating seniors and Lord Fairfax Community College for a $500 scholarship. For every ticket sold, $1 goes to community charities.

The race will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 4 at the old Rappahannock River bridge in Remington, not far from Andes Market & Deli. For more information, contact Susan Eicher at (540) 439-9301.

Liberty Community Church will have a special service for pet lovers. On Oct. 5 at noon, following its regular Sunday service, owners may bring their pet to church for a pet blessing.
