Liberty's Kory Gough commits to Virginia Tech

A call from the Virginia Tech head football coach ten minutes before practice last Tuesday certainly made Liberty High offensive lineman Kory Gough’s day. Beamer offered a scholarship, Gough said yes.
Attending Tech is a dream scenario for Gough said LHS coach Tommy Buzzo. "He liked both Tech and UVa., but Tech was only supposed to be taking one offensive lineman, so when they offered he was elated to be able to sneak in," said Buzzo.
"He was going to go one more week. If there was nothing else (offered) from a BCS school, he’d take from what he had," Buzzo continued.Gough had offers from Arkansas, East Carolina, Marshall, Army, James Madison, Ohio University, Hofstra, Old Dominion and Liberty. Buzzo said the 6-foot-6, 252-pound left tackle planned to take an official visit to Arkansas, but will not now.
Virginia Tech coaches scouted Gough at the Battlefield game on Oct. 10, prompting their decision.
Gough becomes the fourth LHS lineman since 2001 to attend a BCS school, joining Brandon Gore (Virginia Tech), Kalani Heppe (N.C. State) and Alex Stadler (Alabama).
Buzzo said Gough's ability to reduce his 40-yard dash time from 5.3 seconds to 4.9 helped his status.
