Litchfield Presbyterian Church

Litchfield Presbyterian Church is located on Botha Road, near Opal. The land on which the church was built was once known as Litchfield Farm.

In 1859, Mrs. E.E. Saugster, formerly Miss Betsy Lee, gave the property to the congregations of four denominations (Baptists, Methodists, Episcopalians and Presbyterians) for a house of worship.

The first church, built on the site around 1860, was badly damaged during the Civil War, when it was used as a stable by Union troops. The Presbyterian congregation assumed responsibility for the repairs and became the primary congregation using the church.

Known for years as St. Paul's Church, the original building was destroyed by fire in 1931. The present building, dedicated in September 1932, was erected in its place.

Litchfield Presbyterian is a small church with a dedicated membership of 15-20 persons, some of whom are third-generation members. Lately, they are delighted to report an increased number of visitors.

The congregation is currently being served by visiting pastors.

Louise Copper is the church organist.

Services are held at Litchfield Presbyterian Church on the first Sunday of the month at 2:30 p.m., except in January and February, when services are not held. During December, the service is followed by a church social.

Members of the church invite everyone to attend their quaint little church.

The Presbyterian Women of Litchfield meet every month.

Plans are currently being made for the celebration of the church's 150th anniversary, which will take place in 2009.
