Williams succeeds late husband on Warrenton council

Joan R. Williams last week became the first African-American female to join the Warrenton Town Council.

By a 4-0 vote on Thursday, Nov. 13, the council appointed her to the Ward 2 seat. Council members John S. "Spark" Lewis (Ward 5) and Roger Martella (At large) failed to attend the special meeting.

Williams, 74, succeeds her husband John, who died last month after a long illness.
