Hoerner's goal gives Hawks state soccer title

All year long, Chris Hoerner scored so many goals that he'd be hard-pressed to remember them all.

But Hoerner's 34th and final one was unforgettable, as the lethal junior forward nailed the game-winner in last Friday's 1-0 victory over archrival Seton School (Manassas) in the VISAA Division II state championship in Richmond.

The win, in front of about 100 Highland students and fans, was the second boys soccer title in school history, and first under hard-driving coach Robert Franz. That it came against Seton, winners of three of the past four titles and a longtime Highland nemesis, perhaps made it sweeter.
