State trooper injured

A Virginia State Trooper assigned to the Area 12 Office in Warrenton is expected to recover fully from an injury sustained when he accidentally shot himself.

1st Sgt. Matt Hanley said the incident happened at approximately 1 p.m. Friday afternoon. The trooper was off duty and the firearm and ammunition involved were not issued by the agency, Hanley added.

The trooper was reportedly airlifted to a Fairfax hospital.


Attempted robbery investigated

Warrenton Police are investigating an attempted robbery of a check-cashing business on West Lee Highway on Monday morning.

Warrenton Police Chief Connie Novak said the incident happened at approximately 11 a.m. A suspect described as a black female with a slender build who appeared to be in her 40s, entered Checks Cashed through the back door and approached the office, Novak said. The suspect allegedly told an employee she wanted to know where the money was and that she had a gun.

The suspect got scared when the employee slammed the office door, and fled from the building, Novak said.

No one saw a gun and nothing was taken, the chief said.


Arson reported

Fauquier County detectives are investigating an arson reported Oct. 30.

According to police records, someone from the 10000 block of Blake Road in Bealeton reported that a blaze had been set in a dumpster. The estimated damage in the case is $4,000.


Burglary investigated

A burglary reported in the 11300 block of Bristersburg Road in Catlett Oct. 29 remains under investigation, police said.

Police records indicate someone from the address reported a burglary with the theft of firearms including a Mossberg 535, a Wolf CVA 50 and a Remington 300. The estimated loss in the case is $1,000.


Property destruction reported

The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received two reports of destruction of property last week. The details included in police reports are as follows:

Oct. 27, someone from the 11000 block of Marsh Road in Bealeton reported damage to a school bus. The estimated loss in the case is $1,100.

Oct. 30, a caller from the 4100 block of Frost Avenue in Marshall reported damage to asphalt and signs. The estimated loss is $500.


Teen killed in single-vehicle crash

Michael Anthony Eggleston, 19, of Broad Run, was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Beverlys Mill Road Oct. 31, police said.

According to 1st Sergeant Matt Hanley of the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 7 p.m. He said n investigation conducted by Trooper Eric Linkous indicated that a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro operated by Eggleston went off the left side of the road, hit an embankment and overturned several times before it hit a utility pole.

Neither Eggleston or his passenger, Zachary Sisk, 18, who is also from Fauquier County, appeared to be wearing seatbelts, Hanley said. Both were ejected from the vehicle.

Sisk reportedly sustained non-life threatening injuries but was flown to an area hospital by helicopter.

Hanley said speed was a factor in the crash.


Minor injuries reported in wreck

Two people sustained minor injuries in a car crash on Oct. 29, police said.

According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the crash happened in the area of James Madison Highway [U.S. 29] and Marsh Road [U.S. 17] at approximately 3 p.m.

Benjamin Aaron Shneyer, 24, of Rockville, Md., was driving a 2002 Honda Accord when police said he changed lanes in front of a 1998 Ford F-150 driven by Hsue Li Lee, 45, of Goldvein. Lee, who proceeded through the light when it turned green, hit Shneyer from behind, police said.

Neither driver sustained visible injuries, but both complained of pain, according to the report. No one was charged in connection with the wreck.


Deer causes wreck

A Washington, Va., man sustained minor injuries when a deer hit his vehicle in the 7700 block of Lee Highway [U.S. 29] Nov. 1.

A Fauquier County deputy's report indicates the wreck happened at approximately 11:36 p.m. David H. Dike, 61, was driving a 2000 BMW westbound on Lee Highway when a deer ran out from the median and hit his vehicle. The impact caused heavy front end damage to the car, police said.

Dike was not visibly injured, but complained of pain, according to the report. He was not transported to the hospital by EMS.
