Police briefs
Troopers issue more than 550 summonses over holiday weekendVirginia state troopers assigned to the Area 12 Office in Warrenton issued 554 summonses over the holiday weekend.
According to Sgt. Franz Mahler, troopers patrolling Fauquier County roads over four days issued 256 speeding tickets; 40 summonses for reckless driving involving passenger vehicles; and two summonses for reckless driving by tractor trailers.
They also issued 31 tickets for seatbelt violations; five for child-restraint violations; and 96 for other hazardous violations. The troopers issued 75 summonses for equipment violations and 42 for miscellaneous violations.
The troopers also arrested four people for DUI and made one misdemeanor arrest.
They assisted 23 motorists and worked eight wrecks involving property damage and three involving personal injuries.
Fraud investigated
Fauquier County detectives are investigating two cases of fraud reported to the Sheriff's Office last week.
On May 19, a caller from the 6600 block of Brookside Court in Bealeton reported fraud involving house rental. The estimated loss is $1,100.
Two days later, someone came to the Sheriff's Office to report a case of identity fraud. The estimated loss in that case is $498.
Catalytic converter stolen
The theft of a catalytic converter from a motor vehicle remains under investigation.
According to police, a caller from the 10200 block of Marsh Road in Bealeton reported the incident to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office May 19. The item was reportedly worth $549.
Larcenies reported
Two callers from the 700 block of Waterloo Road in Warrenton reported the theft of electronics to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office May 23.
One person told police that an Ipod had been stolen. That items was reportedly worth more than $446. In the other case, an Iphone was reportedly taken. The estimated loss in that case was $405.
Failure to yield right of way
A Bealeton man was reportedly charged with failure to yield the right of way after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident May 19.
The wreck happened shortly after midnight in the area of U.S. 29 and Covingtons Corner Road.
An accident report taken by a Fauquier County deputy indicates Richard William McIntosh Jr., 19, was driving a 2002 Dodge Dakota when he crossed U.S. 29 from Covingtons Corner Road. McIntosh allegedly failed to yield to southbound traffic.
When he did so, he was hit by a 2004 Jeep Liberty driven by John Bradley Watson, 37, of Culpeper, police said. The impact caused McIntosh's vehicle to spin off the roadway, where it toppled a stop sign and road sign.
Watson was reportedly transported to the hospital by EMS personnel.
Reckless driving
A Marshall teen was charged with reckless driving after she was involved in a three-car accident May 22, police said.
The wreck happened in the 7400 block of John Marshall Highway near Zulla Road at approximately 5:30 p.m.
A report taken by a Fauquier County deputy indicates that Donald L. Leonard, 40, of Marshall, was operating a 1997 Toyota when it stopped in the road. A 1986 Volvo driven by a 16-year-old girl hit a 1998 Nissan pickup truck operated by Jose Manuel Limon-Rimirez, 21, of White Post from behind, according to the report. Limon-Rimirez's vehicle was pushed into Leonard's vehicle.
No one was hurt in the crash.
One transported after head-on crash
Charges are pending in a motor vehicle accident that happened on East Shirley Avenue in Warrenton May 22.
A Warrenton police officer's report indicates the wreck happened at approximately 6:30 p.m., when Robert Carew, 78, of Warrenton attempted to make a left turn from East Shirley Avenue onto Legion Drive.
Carew, who was driving a 1990 Mercury Topaz, failed to yield the right of way and drove into the path of a 1992 Chevy Blazer driven by Frances Allhouse, 25, of Remington, police said.
The vehicles hit head on, according to police.
Carew was transported to the hospital by EMS personnel.
Charges pending in motorcycle crash
State police said charges are pending in a motorcycle crash that happened on U.S. 29 May 22.
Sgt. Franz Mahler of the Area 12 Office in Warrenton said the wreck occurred at approximately 7:48 a.m., when Curt Yoder of Culpeper was riding a 2004 Harley Davidson Vrod near Route 28 [Catlett Road]. Yoder, 56, had slowed down for traffic when he somehow lost control of the motorcycle and slid on the roadway.
Yoder was reportedly airlifted to Fairfax Hospital for further treatment.
Road rage factor in crash
A Warrenton man was reportedly charged with aggressive driving and other traffic violations after he wrecked on Dumfries Road May 24.
The wreck happened at approximately 4:40 p.m.
According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, Marcus Regen Fewell, 37, of Warrenton, lost control of his vehicle while he was involved in a "road rage" incident. Fewell's vehicle went off the right side of the road and hit an embankment, causing it to overturn.
Fewell was not transported to the hospital by EMS personnel, according to the report.
He was also charged with driving a vehicle with faulty brakes and failure to control a vehicle.
Driving without a license
Police said a Catlett man was charged with driving without a license after he was involved in a motorcycle wreck on Ringwood Road May 24.
An accident report taken by a Fauquier County deputy indicates the crash happened at approximately 8:16 p.m. James Robert Whitacre, 59, was riding a 1978 Honda Sportster east on Ringwood Road when he somehow lost control of it and it ran off the road. The motorcycle hit several trees and brush, according to the report.
Whitacre was transported to the hospital by EMS personnel, police said.
Woman hurt in motorcycle crash
Katherine Amanda Kjos, 34, of Delaplane was airlifted to an area hospital after she was involved in a motorcycle crash May 25, police said.
A Fauquier County deputy's report indicates Kjos was riding a 2005 Honda west on Grove Lane in the area of Oak Hill Road when it went off the right side of the road.
Kjos, who was rounding a curve at the time, was ejected from the motorcycle, which continued to slide.
Charges are pending.
