New Baltimore: Relay for Life is this weekend

I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful Memorial Day weekend. With the summer season upon us, many of us are thinking of cookouts, fresh fruits and vegetables and sunny hot weather.

Buckland Market, though not completely open for business at Avalon Farm on U.S. 29, is selling fresh fruits and vegetables out of a trailer on the property. It will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the building is open for business. Stop on by and stock up this weekend.

Auburn Middle School spring band concert is 7 p.m. tonight, May 28. Come and celebrate the students' musical accomplishments.

Fauquier County's Relay for Life will take place this Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1, at Falcon Field at Fauquier High School beginning at 5 p.m. Come support your favorite team and cancer research.

Opening night for the Fauquier Gators baseball team will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Fauquier High School baseball field at Athey Memorial Ballpark.

Prior to the game, the Gators will be hosting their first annual Opening Day Free Baseball Clinic for ball players in grades K-8 from 3-4:45 p.m. Registration begins at 2:30 p.m.

Participants are welcome to stay and watch batting practice from 5-7 p.m., then join the Gators on the field for the singing of our National Anthem prior to the game. Concessions will be available.

Auburn Middle School is hosting a Book Fair June 2-6; with family night 5-9 p.m. Monday, June 2. Books for the entire family can also be ordered online for delivery to the school on June 7 or to your home for a fee. Visit www.bookwormcentral.com for a virtual tour, organization code is "auburn."

The C. Hunter Ritchie Singin' Eagles will be presenting "The Pirates of Penzance," with a dinner theater on Friday, June 6, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the dinner theater can be purchased in advance until May 30. Cost is $10 for adults and $7 for children. An additional show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 7. Show tickets for either performance can be purchased for $4 for adults and $2 for children in advance or at the door. For more information, contact the music director, Steve Aiello, at saiello@fcps1.org.

Happy birthday to Doug Beard, Tanner Smith, Tabitha King, Amanda Gertel and Sam Cragun.
