Firefighting procedures to undergo review
The type of incident that claimed the life of a Prince William County firefighter last year could easily happen in Fauquier County.
On May 8, the battalion chief who led the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue's eight-month investigation into the death of Kyle R. Wilson presented her team's findings to fire and rescue personnel here.
Wilson, 24, died while performing search-and-rescue operations at a house fire in the Woodbridge area.
Investigators found that the number of personnel initially dispatched to the call; the impact of high winds on the development and spread of the fire; and the size of the house and presence of lightweight construction materials were among the "major factors" in Wilson's death.
While fielding questions from Battalion Chief Jennie Collins, local firefighters confirmed that many standard procedures in effect in Prince William at the time of the Marsh Overlook Drive fire last year are currently in effect here. They also confirmed that procedures investigators found lacking in Prince William at the time of Wilson's death are also lacking here.
