Wakefield School is bringing fine-feathered entertainment to The Plains with its production of "The Ugly Duckling." Any student who comes dressed as a duck gets in free — what incentive!

The Community Lunch at Grace Church is on for Saturday, May 24. It's Memorial Day weekend, and with a long three-day weekend, you will need the added sustenance of a fun lunch to get you through the weekend. The lunch is absolutely free and will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Plains has a secret jewel of a resource on Bull Run Mountain — the Bull Run Mountain Conservancy.

This 700-acre nature park is open 365 days a year, and in the summer, the park becomes an outdoor laboratory for some of the coolest, up-close-with-nature camps.

At Summer Nature Camp, children spend a nature-filled week interacting with the natural world and with other children, sharing an appreciation of nature.

Each day will focus on different animals and plants that make their home in the Bull Run Mountains. Campers will add to their understanding of nature through a combination of hikes, stream walks, animal handling, games and eco-dramas.

It is for children ages 7-12. Two sessions, limited to 15 participants each, the camp meets Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Session I is July 28 through Aug. 1, and Session II runs Aug. 4-8.

Fee is $250 for BRMC members and $300 for non-members.

At Pre-School Nature Camp, younger children will spend a nature-filled week exploring the mountains and interacting with other children in developing an appreciation of nature. Camp meets Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to noon. Session is July 7-11. Fee is $125 for BRMC members and $150 for non-members.

At the incredibly popular Herpetology Camp, child nature adventurers will spend two days hiking as they search for, observe, and handle salamanders, frogs, lizards, snakes and turtles in the nature preserve.

For children ages 7-12. Two sessions, limited to 15 participants each. Camp meets 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Session I is June 26-27 (Thursday and Friday), and Session II meets June 30-July 1 (Monday and Tuesday). Fee is $100 for BRMC members and $125 for non-members.
