Marshall: A busy schedule for this weekend

Do you have any plans for Saturday evening? How about karaoke? It will be fun.

Old Salem Restaurant has recently changed ownership. The new owners are Mike and Barbara Lynch. They’ve hired Donna Campbell to handle the disc jockey tasks and karaoke for this Saturday, May 24.

It will begin at 6 p.m. and end around 9 p.m. Join them first for a home-cooked meal, finished off with a homemade dessert. The atmosphere is very cozy and friendly, and fun will be had by all.

The new hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays, 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays, 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. Mondays, the restaurant is closed. Stop in to say hi and meet the new owners.

The Delaplane Strawberry Festival is happening this weekend as well, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 24-25.

Live musical entertainment, hayrides, games, petting zoo, face painting, raffle, food, craft vendors, the National Strawberry Eating Championship and more at the beautiful Sky Meadows State Park. See the www.delaplanestrawberryfestival.com for more information.

Team Z's Steppers for Relay for Life-Fauquier is sponsoring a car wash from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

The car wash will be held at the Citgo gas station in Marshall, across from the Marshall United Methodist church. There is no specific charge for the car wash, but merely a donation of any size.

The Marshall Volunteer Fire Department country breakfast is 8-11 a.m. May 25. The menu will include eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, hash browns, gravy and biscuits, pastries, variety of juices, milk and coffee. The cost will be $6 for adults and $3 for children.

For more information, call the station at (540) 364-2047. Join them the fourth Sunday of every month in 2008 and help support MVFD.

Wings of Wonder (W.O.W) Art For Kids is now enrolling campers for the summer sessions. The classes include art, crafts and physical activity, all based on daily themes.

The classes are for children ages 4-12 and will be held each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Contact Aimee Levine at (540) 364-4745 or Mert Cook at (540) 364-4786 for more information. Or visit their Web site, www.wowart4kids.com.

I would like to send my congratulations to my baby sister, Julie Grigsby, on her recent marriage to Bryan Ross.

The newlyweds had a beautiful ceremony on Saturday, May 17, and are now off on their honeymoon. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Ross.

The following friends of the community are celebrating birthdays this week: Donna Campbell, Kaitlyn Nalls, Emerson Russell, Lindsey Walls, Brittany Brown and Robby Lunsford. Happy birthday, everyone.

My quote of the week is for my sister Julie: "A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person." — Mignon McLaughlin
