Driver in I-66 pursuit facing felony charges
A Salem man who allegedly engaged state police in a high-speed pursuit while he had an infant in his car is now facing multiple felony charges.1st Sgt. Matt Hanley of the Virginia State Police Area 12 Office in Warrenton said the incident began at approximately 10:45 a.m. May 7.
At that time, Trooper Doug Pugh observed a vehicle going 80 mph on Interstate 66 in Fauquier County. The speed limit is 65 mph.
Pugh stopped the vehicle and a routine check showed the driver, who was identified as Travis Preston, 24, was driving on a suspended license.
Preston "took off" when Pugh told him the car would need to be towed, Hanley said. A pursuit began in the westbound lanes and went through a work zone, according to the 1st sergeant. Preston allegedly rammed Pugh's car twice as the pursuit continued.
