Grace Miller

Annual Grace Miller International Heritage Night: Please share your family heritage at GMES International Heritage Night. This event is scheduled for 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, June 5. Last year, over 15 countries were represented by GMES students and their families. Those interested in more information or who would like to participate are asked to complete and return the form that was sent home with students or contact coordinator Molly Hash at mhash@fcps1.org.

Field Days are coming: grades K-2, Tuesday, June 3, in the morning; grades 3-5, Wednesday, June 4, in the morning. Please contact PE teacher Ms. Klein at dklein@fcps1.org if interested in volunteering for these events.


M.M. Pierce

Pierce Elementary School will host a spaghetti dinner from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, May 30, to benefit Kendra Heppe and her family.

Kendra, a senior at Liberty High School, was involved in an automobile accident which resulted in multiple serious injuries. Her parents, Lynette and Ed Heppe, are both long-term educators in Fauquier County Public Schools; she is a kindergarten teacher at Pierce Elementary and he is a reading specialist at Taylor Middle School.

The benefit dinner event will also include a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle and a home business merchandise raffle. Among the volunteer cooks and servers will be staff from Pierce and Miller Elementary Schools, Taylor Middle School and Liberty High School.

Taylor Middle

Congratulations to sixth grade student Paul Martinez for being selected as Student of the Month for May.

Congratulations to the newest members of the Roaring Tigers: Matthew Barnes, Klaiton Alicea, Zachary Whitehead, Brittany Brown, Caitlin Taylor and Jenny Ely. Thank you for making Taylor Middle School a wonderful place to be.

Fauquier High

The following students exhibited their photography in the Neighborhood Art Show in The Plains the weekend of May 10-11: Lee Wilkers, Jenna Hunsberger, Ryan Baisden and Andrew Graham. Teachers Chris Smith, Charlene Root and Tom Falkowski also exhibited their work.

Wednesday, May 14, is the DECA reception at 6 p.m.

Thursday, May 15, FFA will hold a banquet at 6 p.m.

Sunday, May 18, is the annual Concert on the Green at 4 p.m., when FHS band students will perform. Bring a picnic and blanket and enjoy.

Tuesday, May 20, is the Senior Class picnic at Crockett Park. Senior yearbook distribution will also take place at 3 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Is it time to tone up and trim down? The Weight Room and Wellness Center at Fauquier High is open daily from 3-8 p.m. and from 9-noon on Saturdays. Pick up a brochure at the Weight Room or call Coach Pulchine (C.S.C.S.) at (540) 347-7501. The cost of participating in this program is only $40/10-week session. Retirees are invited to join the "Silver Circuit" weight training program. This program helps maintain bone density and muscle tone thereby allowing individuals to continue enjoying their active lifestyles. Cardiovascular health, stamina, flexibility and balance are also addressed. No matter what your age, every day is a good day when you're healthy! The current 10-week session began May 12.

Summer hours for all participants will begin June 23. the weight room will be open from 9 a.m.-noon and 1:30-8 p.m. daily and from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.


Liberty High

Please note the following important yearbook distribution date changes.

The senior yearbook pizza party will now be held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, May 20. Seniors may pick up or purchase yearbooks at this time, plus enjoy free pizza and soda.

Underclassmen will receive yearbooks during homeroom on Thursday, May 22.

Highland

Sophomore chosen to attend leadership conference: Alyson Scullin has been selected to participate in the National Student Leadership Conference on Medicine & Health Care this summer at the University of Maryland. During the event, Alyson will attend specialized workshops and classes designed to develop the skills and traits that define a leader. She will also have the opportunity to meet with and learn from recognized leaders. The NSLC program is in its 20th year, continuing with a mission to identify and recognize outstanding young leaders from around the world, and provide them with a unique learning environment that encourages not only academic achievement, but also diversity, cooperation and social responsibility.

After prom party: This year's committee is looking for additional gifts and prize donations. They have several exciting items so far including a webcam, GPS, Dave Matthews tickets and iTunes cards. 15th annual golf tournament: The tournament is Friday, May 16, at Stonewall Golf Club in Gainesville. Individual and team spots still available! Box tops and labels: The final collection for the year will be May 21. The school is very close to meeting the goal of $700 for the box tops, and need a few more labels to reach their goal of 20,000 points.

Art gallery event: An artists' reception and book signing took place May 8 in the Center for the Arts, showcasing the exhibit of Lilla Ohrstrom, Charles Matheson and Charlie Westbrook. Midland Christian Academy
