Party date changeThe Virginia Point-to-Point Association awards party will be held Sunday June 1 starting at 5 p.m. at Great Meadow in The Plains. The event is free; season-end winners in all categories in the point-to-point series will be recognized.

ODHPC shows return
The Old Dominion Hounds Pony Club will host a series of dressage shows and combined tests at Windsor Lodge Farm in Flint Hill.
Dates are May 18, June 15, July 20, Sept. 14, Oct. 5 and Nov. 16.
Dressage tests from intro to second level are offered, and combined tests are from first timers to training.
In the show jumping phase, competitors have a choice of doing all show fences or adding a series of cross-country jumps for a "jumping derby" style division.

BBHSA series back for season
The Back to Basics Horse Show Association will host a series of shows at Lucky Drive Ranch in Catlett.
English show dates are May 17, June 22, July 19, Sept. 14 and Oct. 18.

New jumper series in Rixeyville
The new Rocking Horse Equestrian Center will host a jumper show series at their Rixeyville location.
Shows are set May 18, June 22, July 17 and Aug. 14. The first three shows start at 9 a.m.; the second two begin at 4 p.m.

New jumper shows planned
Fox Chase Farm in Middleburg will host jumper shows May 31, July 12, Oct. 18 and Oct. 25.

Piedmont trail rides
The Piedmont Fox Hounds trail ride schedule is out, with a total of 14 rides. The pace is "walk-trot," with optional jumping.
The May 17 ride is at 9 a.m. from Welbourne near Middleburg. A May 24 ride is at 9 a.m. from Corotoman; May 31 from Somerset at 9 a.m.; June 14 from Greengarden at 8 a.m.; June 21 from Peace and Plenty at 8 a.m.; June 28 from Buttonwood at 8 a.m.; July 5 from Old Welbourne at 8 a.m.; July 12 from Brookfield at 8 a.m.; July 19 from Blackely Grove at 8 a.m.; July 26 from Dencrest at 8 a.m.; Aug. 2 from Ayrshire at 8 a.m.; Aug. 9 from Fox Covert at 8 a.m.; Aug. 16 from Gun Tree at 8 a.m.; and Aug. 23 from Mt. Airy at 8 a.m.

Loudoun Hunt West ride May 31
The Loudoun Hunt West will host the first in their trail ride series on Saturday, May 31 from Valley View Farm in Hamilton at 9 a.m. A tailgate will follow the two-hour ride; there will be be jumping and non-jumping groups. The cost is $25.

Welsh spring fling upcoming

National issues forum
The American Horse Council’s 2008 National Issues Forum will be held June 15-18 at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
Monday will include various committee meetings and an opening reception, with an awards lunch and congressional reception on Capitol Hill to be held Tuesday.
This year’s forum will focus on how the horse industry and individual members can be involved in the 2008 federal elections.
“With a third of the Senate and all the members of the House up for reelection, there is an opportunity for the horse industry to be involved in that process,” said Jay Hickey, AHC president.

Gaited show up next week
The May 25 Virginia Gaited Horse Fun Show will be held May 25 at the American Legion showgrounds in Timberville (near Broadway and New Market.)
Classes, which range from rail classes to dressage, model and games, begin at 9 a.m.
Another similar show is planned July 5.
