Hate group presence is mostly virtual

The number of active hate groups in America is growing, according to one organization that monitors them.

Three hate groups are allegedly present in Fauquier County. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center ?  they are the Center for American Unity, the VDARE Foundation and the United Northern and Southern Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.

According to the Montgomery, Ala-based SPLC, there were 888 active hate groups operating across the country last year, in comparison to 844 groups in 2006.

Thirty-four of them were active in Virginia last year.

The Warrenton groups

The VDARE Foundation and Center for American Unity are both identified as "white nationalist" groups. Both are purported to be based in or have members in Warrenton.

While the SPLC defines white nationalist groups as espousing white supremacist or white separatist ideologies, Peter Brimelow adamantly denies that his organization falls into that category.
