FHS boys tennis (14-0) acing all comers

The No. 1 team in the Cedar Run District boys tennis standings faced a test Monday.

Here was first-place Fauquier, unbeaten this spring, headed to No. 2 Loudoun Valley for a late-season battle. Loudoun Valley had lost twice in league play, so the Falcons already had clinched the district's crown before entering the regular-season finale. The big question was whether the home-court advantage would permit the Vikings to spoil Fauquier's unblemished record.

Nah.

That Hollywood movie script scenario was not to be, as the Falcons swept the regular-season series, 9-0. They took the first meeting 8-1.

Fauquier, now 14-0 for the spring, was never in trouble, as the easy win sent the team into the upcoming Group AAA Northwest Region tournament for the third consecutive year.

The regular-season title also gives Fauquier the top seed for the Cedar Run District tournament that begins Wednesday. Fauquier reportedly will host No. 4 Battlefield, while No. 3 Culpeper travels to No. 2 Loudoun Valley.

The two victors are slated to play Friday at the higher remaining seed for the tournament championship...

See the Wednesday print edition of the Fauquier Times-Democrat for the complete story.
