Piedmont races set Saturday
Twelve are entered in Saturday's feature at Piedmont, with the 3 1/2 mile Rokeby Bowl perhaps offering a first glance at horses aimed for the four-mile Virginia Gold Cup later in the season.The March 22 Piedmont Foxhounds Point-to-Point races begin at 1 p.m. at the Salem Farm course just east of Upperville. Seven races are carded, with splits likely in several of the flat races.
In addition to the headliner, races over timber include a maiden, owner-rider, foxhunters' and ladies, with maiden, open and Virginia-bred races on the turf. There are no hurdle races carded.
Salem Farm is located a mile east of Upperville on U.S. Route 50. Admission options range from general parking passes to railside tailgate spaces along the uphill homestretch.
