Theft of tools reported

A larceny of mechanics tools valued at more than $38,000 remains under investigation, police said.

Information provided by the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office indicates that someone from the 6500 block of Commerce Street, Warrenton, reported the incident Feb. 25. The complainant said miscellaneous tools were missing or stolen from Solo Customs sometime between Feb. 15 and Feb. 16.


Burglaries investigated

Three residential burglaries reported recently remain under investigation, police said.

According to information provided by the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office, someone from the 8600 block of Harrison Court in Marshall reported one of the incidents Feb. 25. A television, two cordless phones, bracelets and a pearl necklace were allegedly taken. A window was also damaged, police said. The estimated loss is $1,400.

A caller from the 7700 block of Warrenton Chase Drive in Warrenton reported a residential burglary March 1. Police said copper wire was taken, locks on a gate were cut and an electric disconnect box was damaged. The estimated loss is $10,000.

Police said they received a call from someone reporting another residential burglary in the 6800 block of Brianwood Court, Bealeton on March 3. Nothing was taken, but the back door was damaged, according to police. The estimated loss is $1,000.


Utility pole only casualty in crash

A Bealeton man reportedly wrecked his 1999 Toyota Corolla when he hit a utility pole Feb. 26.

According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the accident occurred on Green Road at approximately 7:51 p.m. The driver, Baron Thor Young Jr., 19, was going northbound when he attempted to use the brakes on a curve, police said. The brakes allegedly failed to respond, and Young's Toyota slid off the right side of the road. The car hit a utility pole, cracking it in two places, police said.

Young reportedly sustained minor injuries to the forehead. He was not transported to the hospital.

Young was not charged in connection with the incident.


Pedestrian injury investigated

An incident in which a pedestrian was injured on U.S. 29 near Warrenton remains under investigation.

According to Virginia State Police Sgt. Franz Mahler, Trooper Todd Rawls responded to the report of an injured pedestrian at approximately 1:50 a.m.

The injured person was identified as Marvin Mendoza, 18, of no known address, Mahler said. Mendoza was flown to a Fairfax hospital by helicopter, the sergeant added.


Single-vehicle crash reported

A Casanova woman was reportedly injured in a single-vehicle accident Feb. 28.

According to a Fauquier deputy's report, the accident happened on Casanova Road near Catlett Road at 12 p.m. Patricia Lynn Furr, 32, was driving a 1998 Mitsubishi when she allegedly ran off the right shoulder of the road and sideswiped a telephone pole.

Furr, who was transported to the hospital by EMS personnel, was not charged in connection with the incident, police said.


Two injured in wreck

Two people were hurt in a two-car crash in the 5300 block of U.S. 29 [Lee Highway] March 1, police said.

A Fauquier deputy's report indicates the wreck happened near Grays Mill Road at approximately 8 p.m.

Betty Wine Pennington, 75, of Warrenton, was driving a 1999 Mercedes when she allegedly failed to yield the right of way while making a right turn onto Lee Highway.

John Michael Joerger, 18, of Warrenton, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla, was unable to avoid the collision and hit the back of Pennington's car, police said.

Both drivers were reportedly transported to the hospital by EMS personnel.


I-66 wreck injures two

Two people were hurt in a car crash on Interstate 66 in Fauquier County March 2, police said.

Virginia State Police Sgt. Franz Mahler said the crash happened at approximately 11:32 a.m., when Audrey Strait, 41, of Maryland, was driving westbound on the highway. The left rear tire of the 2006 Ford Expedition blew out, and the vehicle ran off the right side of the road where it hit a wire guard rail and overturned, Mahler said.

Two passengers in Strait's vehicle were transported to the hospital, Mahler said.

Strait was reportedly charged with operating a vehicle with defective equipment.

Trooper Chris Carson investigated the crash.
