Escapee returned to Fauquier
Todd Sterling Heise, 43, who was recently apprehended in Niagara Falls, NY, is now back in Fauquier County.
Heise was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers on a warrant charging him with escape after he allegedly failed to return to the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center.
Heise was reportedly in work release program while serving time for a DUI conviction and had only a short time remaining on his sentence.
According to Fauquier County Deputy John Jenkins, who administers the program, it is "very rare" for someone to simply walk away from his or her job while on work release.
Jenkins noted that several policies and procedures are in place to make sure those inmates on work release are actually at their jobs when they claim to be, and that they return to the adult detention center at the appropriate time. (See related story on this page).
In summary
According to a statement issued by the CBP, the arrest stemmed from an incident May 30 in which Heise used a fake name to try to gain entry into the United States (see the complete story in the June 6 Times-Democrat Weekend or online at www.fauquier.com).
Fauquier County deputies brought Heise back here over the weekend.
He is now scheduled to appear in Fauquier County General District Court on June 16.
