County hit by one tornado

Reports of tornadoes forming in the Fauquier County skies were flying as violent thunderstorms pounded the area on June 4.
However, the National Weather Service, which sent a survey team to the area late last week said only one tornado actually touched down here.
Calvin Meadows, a hydrometeorologist with the National Weather Service in Sterling, confirmed on Monday that an EF-1 tornado with maximum wind gusts of 95 mph formed at approximately 7:27 p.m. June 4.
He said it developed after a severe storm system known as a "bow echo," due to its appearance on radar, crossed the Rapidan River into the Sumerduck and Goldvein areas of Fauquier County.
