Colonial lists 'chase dates
Colonial Downs has released its steeplechase summer schedule, with total purses of more than $162,000 for hurdlers on offer at the New Kent County track.
Races are slated Sunday, June 15, Sunday, June 29, Sunday, July 13 and Sunday, July 27. Two races are carded each day, with the graded Zeke Ferguson memorial set July 13.

Rockeley ride

WIHS ties on with Verizon through '09
The Washington International Horse Show extended its contract with the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. to extend its contract through 2009. The 50th anniversary show will be held October 21-26. For more information, visit www.wihs.org.

Horse history exhibit in NYC
The American Museum of Natural History in New York City has a new exhibit, "The Horse," in place through Jan. 4, 2009.
With dioramas, cultural artifacts from around the world, and interactivity, the exhibit traces how the horse has shaped human history.

Rodeo series starts Saturday
The Twisted K Ranch in Round Hill has posted its rodeo schedule for the summer. All-around rodeos are slated at the farm June 14, July 12, Sept 13 and Oct. 11.
Twisted K will put on bull riding events June 28 at Chapel View Farm in Leesburg, July 10 at the Fauquier Fairgrounds in Warrenton, Aug. 2 in Winchester, Aug. 6 in Front Royal, Aug. 9 at Great Meadow in The Plains, Aug. 15 in Berryville and Aug. 21 in Luray.

TWA shows upcoming
The Winslett Advantage will host a Short Circuit show June 15 at the Warrenton Horse Show grounds. TWA also has jumper shows set at Sumerduck Run Farm in Culpeper June 17, July 8 and 22 and Aug. 5.

Oare, Upperville enter Hall of Fame
Warrenton's Betty Oare was inducted into the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame recently. Oare, who most recently rode to the highest score of all amateur-owner hunters at the Devon Horse Show in Pennsylvania, was joined by Hall inductees Sandy Dennehy and Harry Gill.
The venerable Upperville Colt and Horse Show, entering its 155th year this week, was voted Horse Show of the Year for 2007.
