Remington man charged with involuntary manslaughter

A Remington man accused of involuntary manslaughter in connection with a traffic accident is scheduled to appear in Culpeper County General District Court June 12.

Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler said the wreck, which happened on Lakota Road in Culpeper, resulted in the death of an 8-year-old child.

The accident happened at approximately 8:20 p.m. May 16.

A driver identified as Fielding Taylor Kines, 38, was operating a 1999 Acura sedan eastbound on Lakota Road when he lost control of it. The car went off the left side of the road and down a small embankment where it started to overturn, Tyler said. It then went through a wooden fence and landed upright in a field.

The 8-year-old, who was an unrestrained passenger in the car, appeared to be ejected in the accident, Tyler said. The child reportedly died as the result of injuries sustained in the accident.

A 5-year-old child who was also in the car at the time of the wreck was in a car seat, Tyler said.

Tyler declined to comment on reports that Kines allegedly tried to hide the 8-year-old's body at the scene, saying he could not comment on any aspect of the investigation. Media outlets that published the reports got the information from "other sources," Tyler said.

Trooper J.K Hathaway conducted the investigation.

In addition to involuntary manslaughter, he charged Kines with a felony count of DUI (3rd offense) and a misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license.
