Police briefs
Abduction chargedA Washington, Va., man was reportedly charged with abduction in connection with an assault the occurred near the Warrenton Aquatics and Recreation Facility on July 7.
According to Warrenton Police Chief Connie Novak, the incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m., when a 49-year-old woman from the Warrenton area was jogging on a path near the playing fields at the center. Novak said the victim was jumped from behind and thrown to the ground. The assailant allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat and covered her mouth.
Novak said the woman screamed and tried to get away, but blacked out briefly. The assailant was standing over the victim when she came to, the chief added.
The victim was able to "play dumb," and asked the man for his help. The man allegedly ran off, and the victim was able to use her cell phone to call police, providing a description and direction of travel.
Police apprehended the man nearby, Novak said. He was identified as James Robert Allen, 25.
The victim, who sustained abrasions to several areas of her body, was able to identify Allen as the assailant, Novak said.
Allen was initially charged with assault and battery, and the abduction charge was added later, Novak said.
His next appearance in Fauquier County General District Court is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 21.
Larcenies investigated
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received two reports of larcenies July 21.
According to police records, someone from the 6300 block of Independence Avenue in Bealeton reported a camcorder taken from Liberty High School. The item was reportedly worth approximately $2,150.
In the second case, a caller from the 7400 block of Academic Avenue in Nokesville reported the theft of a track loader worth about $51,000. An investigation is ongoing.
Residential burglary
A residential burglary in the 3300 block of Sage Road in Markham remains under investigation.
Police records indicate the incident was reported to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office on July 23. The complainant related that numerous items, including a go-cart, assorted jewelry and tools, were taken sometime after July 17. The estimated loss in the case is $5,900.
Property damaged
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received a report of damaged property July 23.
According to police records, someone from the 7000 block of Helm Drive in Remington reported that a rear sliding glass door had been damaged sometime after June 23. Police said nothing was taken from the residence.
Thefts from motor vehicles reported
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received several reports of thefts from motor vehicles last week.
Maj. Greg Mauck said all of the incidents happened overnight July 23 and were reported July 24. All of the incidents occurred in or near the Snow Hill subdivision, he added.
Motor vehicle theft
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received a report of a stolen motor vehicle July 24.
Police records indicate a caller from the 3200 block of Elk Run Road in Catlett reported a 1998 Nissan 240SX had been stolen from a friend's house. The incident apparently occurred sometime after July 17 and the estimated loss in the case is $800.
