Title-minded Frogs don't expect to croak

A narrow victory over Culpeper Rec. on Saturday widened the Fauquier Swim Club's lead in the Tri-County League standings.

The first-place FSC Frogs improved to 4-0 with the 662.5-612.5 victory and put themselves in position to lock up the league championship with a win over Culpeper Country Club in a meet scheduled for Thursday evening (after Fauquier Weekend press time).

"We're in first place and we're really excited," FSC coach Angie Smith said. "Words can't explain it."

Meanwhile, Chestnut Forks Swim Club fell to 1-3 on the season with a 733-506 loss to the Orange Otters despite a record-setting day for newcomer Brandi Kennedy.

Fauquier Swim Club's victory over Culpeper Rec hinged on the 11-12-year-old age group races. Smith said FSC trailed the Barnstormers by seven points midway through the meet, but rallied behind Amber Smith, Madison Mulvey and Hannah Pezza.

"We were able to come back and dominate," coach Smith said. "The 11-12 girls were able to get 1-2-3 every single time...They're pretty strong.”

While Amber Smith, Mulvey and Pezza combined to sweep all the 11-12 girls races, Nicholas Patrick and Alex Hudson claimed the top two spots in most of the 13-14 boys races.

Plus, Kelsey Smith won four events in the 13-14 girls competition, Colin Cummings finished first in four 9-10 boys events, Kaleb Scott swept the five 11-12 boys races and Sean Koehr contributed to eight wins in the 15-18 boys age group, winning six individual races and two relays...
