Sentencing in Social Security fraud case continued
By Alexandra Bogdanovic
A sentencing hearing in the case of Irven Jones, the general manager of the Blue Ridge Christian Home in Bealeton who pled guilty to Social Security fraud, has been continued.Jones was supposed to be sentenced in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia on July 8.
However, documents filed in the federal court in Charlottesville show that prosecutors requested the continuance, which was granted that day.
In the motion, U.S. Attorney John L. Brownlee said the government asked for the postponement so attorneys could investigate whether Jones' sentence should be "enhanced" for obstruction of justice, and whether he should receive credit in sentencing for "acceptance of responsibility."
