Local 10-year-olds eliminated

Last week, Fauquier Showtime played two pivotal games in the Babe Ruth Baseball U-10 State Tournament against South Augusta and Peachtree. Unfortunately, the boys were unable to win and qualify for the next round.

The event was held at the Liberty High softball fields.

After winning their opening game by forfeit, Showtime squared off last Thursday against South Augusta.

Mental mistakes were the deciding factor in a 15-1 loss, as many simple plays weren't made that could have kept the game close. “We were very nervous and tight,” said coach Scott Fisher.

Pitcher Tyler Pavlock got off to a slow start, walking batters and throwing wild pitches. Pavlock calmed down and controlled his nerves by striking out the last batter of the first inning, but the damage was done as South Augusta led 4-0.

South Augusta continued to play solidly, and Fauquier was unable to keep up. South Augusta scored at least three runs each inning.

Fauquier made better defensive plays as the game went on, and the hosts also started to make solid contact at the plate...
