Police identify homicide victim
Investigators from the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office have identified the victim of a homicide which occurred last week in the 5200 block of Free State Road, Marshall.
In a statement issued Tuesday, police said the man who was found dead as a result of multiple, unspecified wounds June 29 was Du Chil Park.
Park, who was 56, was a Buddhist monk. Police said Park, who was also known as "Mogu" came to the United States about 10 years ago and began the Jungtosa Zen Buddhist Temple on Old Keene Mill Road in the Springfield area of Fairfax County. He moved the temple to the Marshall area in March 2004.
Police said their investigation has also determined that Park was born in Kyong Ju, Korea where he practiced acupuncture and moxibustion [an oriental medicine therapy].
In the 1970s and 1980s, Park was an activist against former Korean military governments. He was reportedly imprisoned in 1974 for hiding an activist who was on the run.
Park became a monk in 1978 and operated a small temple in the Chun Noung section of Seoul. There, he provided acupuncture and moxibustion treatment to the poor.
Police said Park continued to practice both techniques while living in Fauquier County.
Searching for clues...
Documents filed in Fauquier County Circuit Court show that detectives have requested and obtained two search warrants in connection with the case. The first was executed June 29 and the second was executed June 30.
Both warrants allowed police to search not only the single-family residence, but also any outbuildings and vehicles on the property.
In addition to evidence of murder, the second warrant indicates investigators are looking for any and all paperwork which would aid in notification of the victim's family or "identification of the victim/suspect."
A search inventory and return form filed along with the second warrant on Wednesday shows that police seized dozens of items including a large kitchen knife, a small knife, a black makeup bag; a three-piece cutlery set (with one piece missing), and a mirror from a bedroom window. Mail and other documents were also confiscated.
While conducting the initial search, police seized numerous items including acupuncture home-therapy supplies and miscellaneous supplements.
