Police seek clues in Marshall death

Fauquier County investigators conducted an exhaustive search early last week at a Free State Road address in Marshall where a death was reported on Sunday.

Maj. Greg Mauck of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office said that investigators are treating the matter as a homicide. Both the victim's identity and additional details about the case are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, however.

Documents filed in Fauquier County Circuit Court show that detectives have requested and obtained two search warrants in connection with the case. The first was executed Sunday evening and the second was executed the next day.

Both warrants allowed police to search not only the single family residence but any outbuildings and vehicles on the property.

In addition to evidence of murder, the second warrant indicates investigators were looking for any and all paperwork which would aid in notification of the victim's family or "identification of the victim/suspect."

A search inventory and return form filed along with the second warrant on Wednesday shows that police seized dozens of items including a large kitchen knife, a small knife, a black makeup bag; a three-piece cutlery set (with one piece missing), and a mirror from a bedroom window. Mail and other documents were also confiscated.

While conducting the initial search, police seized numerous items including acupuncture home-therapy supplies and miscellaneous supplements.

A computer and miscellaneous documents from the house and a vehicle on the property were confiscated, as well.
