Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

By Alice Felts

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow If a child goes to bed with his or her pajamas inside out, it just may snow. At least that's how the popular superstition goes.

But does that mean that kids still have to go to school?

Here are specific resources that Fauquier students and their parents can use to find out the latest on school closings and delays.

There are several types of closings and delays. All notices are placed on the media by 6 a.m.

All-day closings include the cancellation of extracurricular activities, team practices, field trips and local in-service programs.

A one-hour delayed opening means that all students would report to school one hour late and leave at the regular closing time. Unless exceptions are approved by school administration, the school breakfast program and field trips are canceled.

A two-hour delayed opening means that students would report two hours later than their regular schedule and leave at the regular closing time. This would also cancel the school breakfast program and field trips unless otherwise approved by school administration.

Early school closings mean schools would be dismissed prior to the regular schedule. The exact time of dismissal would be released to the media, school principals and facilities as soon as a decision is made.

On early-closing days, lunch would be served if prepared and time was available for serving. Field trips would be canceled unless in progress, whereupon the school would attempt a bus transportation recall. Extracurricular events, team practice, after-school events, and Parks and Recreation Department programs would be canceled, along with local in-service programs for teachers.

The only other thing students need to know is how to put on their pajamas.
