Hearing scheduled in dog case

Charles E. Settle Jr., a Warrenton man convicted of providing inadequate care for numerous dogs will get a chance to plead his case in Fauquier County Circuit Court.

According to court records, a hearing has been scheduled for April 4.

Settle had been found guilty of the offense in General District Court earlier this year, and his dogs have since been cared for at the Fauquier County SPCA and at the Middleburg Humane Foundation.

Police seeking driver in hit-and-run case

Warrenton Police are looking for the driver in a hit-and-run incident that happened earlier this month.

According to Warrenton Police Chief Connie Novak, the driver has been identified as Eblin Omar Ardon-Amaya, 29. Ardon-Amaya's last known address was on Haiti Street in Warrenton.

He is now wanted on charges of felony hit-and-run and driving revoked.

Novak said the charges stem from an incident that happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. Feb. 3.

"Several resident of Split Oak Drive called to say a drunk driver was hitting cars trying to get out of the parking lot," Novak said. "One resident was almost hit trying to stop the man. Four vehicles were damaged," she added.

The chief went on to say that a 2000 Nissan, a 1998 Honda and a 2005 Chrysler each sustained $500 in damages. A 1997 Plymouth sustained approximately $3,000 in damages.

"When police arrived, the man was gone, but another call came in of an accident on Branch Drive and Oak Springs Drive. The same vehicle had hit a woman in her vehicle broadside," Novak explained.

The female motorist reportedly sustained shoulder injuries and was taken to Fauquier Hospital.

Her vehicle sustained $7,000 in damages, while the other car driven by the man ultimately identified as Ardon-Amaya sustained about $5,000 in damages, the chief said.

Ardon-Amaya allegedly fled the scene on foot after hitting the female motorist.

Icy road causes wreck

A Manassas woman was reportedly injured in a single-vehicle accident Feb. 12.

According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the wreck happened in the 3500 block of Rectortown Road near Fortune Mountain Road at approximately 6:29 p.m.

Amy Michalakis, 21, was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer southbound when she lost control of it on the ice-covered road, according to the report. The sports utility vehicle struck an embankment, rolled over and came to rest on its side.

Michalakis was hurt, but was not transported to the hospital, according to the report.

She was not charged in connection with the incident.

Two hurt in motor vehicle accident

Two people were reportedly hurt in a motor vehicle accident Feb. 12.

An accident report compiled by a Fauquier County deputy indicates the wreck happened on Sowego Road near Brent Town Road shortly before 6 p.m.

Lauren Elizabeth Swartz, 24, of Stafford, was driving a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer southbound on Sowego Road when she approached a curve in the roadway and began to slide, police said. The vehicle slid off the left side of the road and hit a mailbox.

Swartz and a passenger were transported to the hospital by EMS personnel, according to the report.

Swartz was not charged in connection with the accident.
