No miracle this time: Battlefield buries LHS
Four nights ago, Liberty rallied from 16 points down in the final three minutes for a stunning win over Battlefield. On Monday, in first round of the Cedar Run District playoffs, Battlefield finished the job.
The Bobcats led from the outset and won going away, 58-41, ending Liberty's season.
"We knew this was going to be a tough matchup," Liberty coach Pat Frazer said. "Of all the teams we could have played, this was the one (that gave us) the worst matchup."
Liberty trailed 41-24 after three quarters, but showed glimmers of another shocking comeback. The Eagles rattled off the first eight points of the fourth quarter as Battlefield committed three turnovers, to cut the lead to 41-32.
Battlefield responded with the next eight points, though, to reopen a 17-point cushion.
"I got a little nervous," said Battlefield coach Al Ford about Liberty's fourth-quarter charge. "But we practiced that situation."
Battlefield will move to the Cedar Run's semifinals on Wednesday against the winner of Monday's Culpeper-Osbourn game.
Liberty finishes with a 17-7 record.
