Hit and run in Warrenton
According to officials at the Town of Warrenton Police, there was a hit and run on Sunday, Feb. 3. around 10:30 p.m. Several residents on Split Oak Drive in Warrenton called the Warrenton police, informing them that a drunk driver was hitting cars as he drove out of the parking lot. One resident reported almost being hit trying to stop the man.
Three vehicles, including a 2000 Nissan, a 1998 Honda and a 2005 Chrysler, each received $500 worth of damage. There was $3,000 worth of damage to a 1997 Plymouth.
Although, the driver was gone when the police arrived, they soon received another call concerning an accident on Branch Drive and Oak Springs Drive. The same vehicle had hit a woman in her vehicle broadside. She was taken to Fauquier Hospital with serious shoulder injuries. The driver left on foot.
He is still being sought and charges are pending.
Vehicle theft investigated
Fauquier County deputies are investigating a motor vehicle theft that happened over the weekend. Information provided by the sheriff's office indicates that the locked pickup truck was reported stolen by a caller from the 7500 block of Kennedy Road in Nokesville on Feb. 3. The estimated loss $1,500.
The complainant also reported the theft of an ATV, which had been attached to the tailgate of a trailer. The estimated loss is $3,000.
Breaking and entering reported
A complainant from the 11000 block of Cedar Lee Court, Bealeton reported a breaking and entering on Jan. 28. In addition to a damaged window, $9,500 worth of goods were reported stolen, including DVDs, a Glock 17 (pistol), a gold chain and a wedding ring, among other assorted jewelry. The investigation is ongoing.
Property destruction in Bealeton
A caller from the 11000 block of Harley Drive, Bealeton, reported damage to a wooden fence on Feb. 3, in which the fence was removed from the property. The estimated loss is $1,000.
Larcenies reported
A caller from the 5000 block of Edgebrook Drive, Warrenton, reported theft of an air compressor on Jan 30. The estimated loss is $4,000.
A complainant from the 6300 block of Village Center Drive, Bealeton, reported $600 worth of cash and jewelry stolen from their residence on Feb. 3.
Three cars damaged in Opal accident
One person was hurt in an accident involving three cars at the intersection of Marsh Road and James Madison Highway (U.S. 29) on Feb. 1, police said.
According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the accident occurred at 9:56 am. Lauren Frazier, 25, of Culpeper, who was driving a 2005 Honda 2D CP, and Stephen Green, 54, of Boston, who was driving a 2007 International box truck, had stopped at a red light in the northbound travel lanes on U.S. 29 in Opal. Claude Simard, 67, of Quebec, who was driving a 2007 Dodge van, was traveling south on U.S. 29 in the turning lane preparing to make a left turn onto Marsh Road.
Some diesel fuel had spilled in the intersection, and when Simard hit his brakes, his van slid into Frazier's vehicle, knocking her car into Green's. The accident caused $1,500 damage to Simard's van and $3,200 damage to Frazier's Honda, 3,200.
Ice blamed in wreck
One person was injured in a one-car accident in the 8100 block of Leeds Manor Road in the early morning of Feb. 2.
Aria Vaitekunas, 24, of Marshall, was traveling north on Leads Manor Road when her vehicle, a 2000 Ford Explorer, went over an icy patch. She subsequently lost control of her car, running off the left side of the road and striking trees. The accident did an estimated $5,000 to the vehicle.
Teen strikes utility pole
Maria Garofalo, 19, of Fredericksburg, was traveling north on Sumerduck Road in a 2001 Mercury Sable on the morning of Feb. 3 when she ran off the road and struck a utility pole. The estimated damage is $5,000.
