A Warrenton man was reportedly killed in an accident in a two-car accident in the northern part of Culpeper County Dec. 10.

According to Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler, the wreck occurred in the area of Route 229 and Route 624 at approximately 5:19 p.m.

Tyler said James Leonard Grayson, 63, of Warrenton, was driving a 1988 Volvo 240DL southbound on Route 229 when it went off the right side of the road. Grayson allegedly over corrected and the vehicle came back into the northbound lanes of Route 229 where it struck a Toyota Sienna driven by Maria Weiss, 32, of Warrenton. The Toyota then went off the right side of the road and hit a tree, Tyler added.

The sergeant said Grayson died at the scene as the result of injuries sustained in the wreck. Weiss was taken to Fauquier Hospital.

Virginia State Trooper J.K. Hathaway conducted the accident investigation.

One hurt in three-car wreck

One person was hurt in a three-car wreck at the intersection of Opal Road and Lees Mill Road Dec. 10, police said.

According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the incident happened at approximately 3:47 p.m.

James Anthony Mighty, 18, was driving a 2005 Dodge westbound on Lees Mill Road when he allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign at the Opal Road intersection. Meanwhile, Harland Jerry Gregg, 49, of Jeffersonton, was driving a 1997 Ford F250 southbound on Opal Road and hit Mighty's Dodge as it went through the intersection, police said.

The impact apparently caused both vehicles to slide towards a 2002 Toyota Tacoma driven by Matthew Thaddeus Lindner, 20, of Warrenton. Lindner's vehicle was stopped at the stop sign on Lees Mill Road heading east. Gregg's vehicle hit Linder's vehicle and Mighty's vehicle hit a small post at the corner of Lees Mill Road and Opal Road, police said. Linder's vehicle wound up in a ditch.

Mighty, who was visibly hurt, was transported to the hospital by EMS personnel. Gregg and Linder were not visibly hurt and were not transported, according to the report.

Mighty was charged with failure to yield the right of way.
