Former Liberty coach arrested again

Frank Anthony “Chip” Rea is in trouble again.

Maj. Paul Mercer of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office said Rea, 32, of Sumerduck was recently arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The arrest reportedly stemmed from an incident on Aug. 18 in which Fauquier County deputies went to the 5200 block of Courtney's Corner Road for a report of a party. The deputies found several people, including Rea, outside, Mercer said.

One of the persons, Frank Rea, approached the deputies to find out why they were there,” the major said.

As a result of further investigation by Sgt. F.S. Lucas, police obtained a search warrant for the house, Mercer explained.

Rea is now in custody at the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center.

This is not Rea's first brush with the law.

The former Culpeper County High School special-education teacher and assistant football coach pleaded guilty last fall to one count of possession of cocaine and one count of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

He was sentenced Jan. 24 to five years in prison, with four years and nine months suspended. He was also placed on two years supervised probation upon his release.

Rea also pleaded guilty last year to two assault charges resulting from a separate incident. He was sentenced to six months of supervised probation and six months of unsupervised probation in connection with that case.

Rea is due in Fauquier County General District Court Oct. 2 to face the most recent charges.
