Police and court briefs
Construction, check fraud reportedFauquier County detectives are investigating two incidents involving fraud reported to the Sheriff's Office Aug. 18 and Aug. 21.
A complainant from the 7300 block of Iron Bit Drive in Warrenton reported construction fraud Aug. 18. The estimated loss is $3,500.
On Aug. 21, a caller from the 9400 block of James Madison Highway, Warrenton, reported check fraud with an estimated loss of $5,900.
Thefts under investigation
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received two reports of larcenies Aug. 19.
In the first case, someone from the 7300 block of Jordan Drive in Warrenton reported the theft of prepay gas cards. The estimated loss is $800.
A caller from the 12200 block of Riverton Court, Remington, reported the theft of four fire hydrants. The estimated loss is $1,500.
Catlett man arrested
A Catlett man was reportedly arrested and charged with breaking and entering Aug. 20.
Police records indicate that a residential burglary was reported that day from the 6000 block of Lee Highway in Warrenton. An investigation determined that Larry Francis Figgins, 34, had allegedly entered his employers' home without permission.
Gun stolen from car
A caller from the 8600 block of Meetze Road, Warrenton, reported a theft from a motor vehicle to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office Aug. 20.
Law enforcement records show a .25 caliber Beretta pistol, a laptop, a safe and assorted jewelry were allegedly taken from the vehicle. The estimated loss is $3,098.95.
Burglaries investigated
Three residential burglaries reported to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office last week remain under investigation.
According to police reports, two people reported burglaries Aug. 22. The first case happened in the 11000 block of Coffman Circle in Bealeton. The estimated loss in the case is $2,500.
The second incident occurred in the 5300 block of Old Alexandria Turnpike in Warrenton. The estimated loss is $2,750.
Someone from the 6700 block of Stonehurst Court in Warrenton reported a residential burglary Aug. 23. The estimated loss is $600.
Traffic stop leads to arrest
A Remington man was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice and possession of Oxycodone Aug. 22, police said.
According to Remington Police Officer Tim Benjamin, the arrest was the result of a traffic stop. An investigation conducted by Remington Police Officer determined that Joshua A. Collins, 18, was driving on a suspended license, Benjamin said.
In addition to the narcotics and obstruction charges, Collins was charged with driving on a suspended license (3rd/subsequent offense).
He was taken to the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center, where he was initially held on $10,000 bond.
Property damaged in Bealeton, Marshall
Two people reported destruction of property with approximately $3,000 in damages to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office Aug. 22 and Aug. 24.
In the first case, a caller from the 11000 block of Scott Circle in Bealeton reported that a 1995 Dodge 1500 truck had been damaged. The estimated loss is $1,000.
On Aug. 24, someone reported damage to an electric pole in the 8000 block of Belmont Court in Marshall. The estimated loss is $2,000.
Safe found in pond
Virginia State Police would like to return a safe that was found in a pond to its rightful owner.
Sgt. Charlie Crummett of the Area 12 Office in Warrenton said a homeowner on Old Auburn Road reported finding the item in a pond Aug. 24. The safe contained various personal items, Crummett said.

Warrenton woman dies in wreck
A Warrenton woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident Aug. 22, police said.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Charlie Crummett said Tina Gale Day, 41, was driving a Toyota Celica on Marr Drive when it went off the road and through a fence before hitting a tree.
Day was the only person in the vehicle, Crummett said.
Two hurt in wreck
Two people were hurt in a car crash Aug. 18, police said.
According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the wreck happened on Leeds Manor Road near Moss Hollow Road at approximately 3:45 p.m.
Violeta Catalina Johnston, 21, of Markham, was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee southbound on Leeds Manor Road when she stopped to turn into her driveway. When she stopped she allegedly went over the yellow center lines.
In the meantime, Altrovese Danielle McClung, 34, of Markham, was driving a 1997 Honda Accord northbound. She saw Johnston's car come across the center line and braked to avoid it, but was unable to do so, according to the report.
Two passengers in McClung's car were reportedly transported to the hospital by EMS personnel.
Improper turn alleged
Police said a Catlett man was charged with making an improper turn after he was involved in an accident Aug. 20.
A Fauquier County deputy's report indicates the wreck happened at the intersection of Catlett Road and Smith Midland Lane at approximately 1 p.m.
James Richard Bryant Jr., 59, was initially driving a 1993 GMC Sonoma northbound on Catlett Road. But then Bryant, who was delivering newspapers went northbound in the southbound lane in order to access a newspaper box on the side of the road, police said.
He allegedly made a right turn from the southbound lane in front of a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero driven by Yael Michelle Edwards, 47, of Manassas. Edwards hit the passenger side of Bryant's vehicle, police said.
Edwards did not have any visible signs of injuries but was transported to the hospital by EMS personnel.
