Catlett This Week: 'Staycation' starts on Friday

We are still looking for old pictures of Catlett. I want to thank those who have responded to this call, but we would like to add more if possible. We especially would like to have pictures of churches.

Please contact me, and I will come to you, or you can drop your pictures off at our home, and I will scan them and get them back to you. Or if you prefer, you can wait while I scan.

Thank you for helping us get a Catlett Day started for 2009 and giving our new Fire and Rescue Building an added feature.

Warren and I enjoyed our week at the Central Manor Camp Meeting last week. Two of our great-grandchildren joined us, Wesley and Kaylee Miller. It was good to see old friends and make new ones again this year. This campground has been in existence for more than 100 years and features the best of speakers from all over our country.

Don't forget the "Staycation" camping at Trinity United Methodist Church this weekend, beginning at 6 p.m. Aug. 29, continuing through Sunday morning, Aug. 31.

Friday will feature a bluegrass concert under the stars with Bull Run Grass. Saturday, a wakeup breakfast of eggs, pancakes, grits, bacon and sausage, etc., all cooked outdoors. Then off to Crockett Park for a day of organized games or just relaxing. Back to the church for a cookout and later a movie with popcorn.

On Sunday morning, there will be a continental breakfast, then the Sunday school classes, and the morning worship service. We are invited for the whole weekend or enjoy the programs you can attend. Please pre-register for this event. For more information, call (540) 788-3621.

Place on your calendars: The Community Breakfast at Mount Horeb Methodist Church is Saturday 8-10 a.m. Sept. 6, and St. Stephens Episcopal Church will have its chicken barbecue on the same day from 3:30-6:30 p.m. on the lot between BB&T and the Catlett Market. I recommend both of these meals very highly.

There have been many county fairs in the area. If you have participated in any, please let me know so we can share with our community readers.

Catlett columnist Virginia Copeland can be reached at (540) 788-4609 or catlett1966@earthlink.net.
